If you are someone that uses chat programs like aim, ICQ, Yahoo messenger, MSN, or Googletalk and have lots of online buddies, it can be a great method to get people to read your blog and to leave comments on it.

As it is with your signature on your e-mail or with any type of home based business, you do not need to just send an instant message to people everytime you update your blog. You also don’t really want to simply send a message to somebody asking to read your blog.

For someone who has been on your friends list for some time, you can be less formal of course, but you want to be mannered when you talk to folks who you may have not talked to in a while or someone who is new.

Use your own judgement when you are talking with people about your blog. If it’s's somebody that you haven’t talked to in a while, and somebody asks you what you’ve been up to, you can point them to your blog in order that they know what is going on with you.

Some blogs, like LiveJournal, have their own messaging programme, so that is’s also another good way to advertise your blog.

Be sure that you do not send somebody a message though only to publicize your blog. It’s more mannered to point out something about their blog first, and then tell them about your blog.

If you have got a common interest, it’s a good ice breaker and it’ll give you something to discuss.
